Raquel Monk

Obituary of Raquel H. Monk

Died peacefully on June 10, 2019 at age 87. Raquel was born in Salta, Argentina. After immigrating to the US, she received a Masters degree in Social Work. She loved her work as a psychiatric social worker and in subsequent positions in care for the elderly. After she retired, she volunteered as a translator at a clinic for migrant workers near her home in Boynton Beach, Florida and at various bird sanctuaries. Raquel’s adventurous spirit, loving nature, compassion, intelligence and sense of humor all shone through to the end.

She is predeceased by her parents, Isaac and Rebeca Helman and her brother Samuel Helman. She is survived by her devoted and loving husband, Abraham Monk; children Lili Monk (Gordon Schatz), Daniel Monk (Robin Zachary), Rebeca Monk (David Trawick); sister-in-law Rosa Lapin; grandchildren, Talia Schatz, Benjamin Schatz, Julia Monk, Sam Trawick, Alex Trawick; one nephew and several nieces.

We gratefully acknowledge the wonderful care Raquel received from Gail Smith, Molly Bronk, Marian’s house, the 3rd floor staff at the Jewish Home, her hospice team from Lifetime Care and the angelic volunteers at Benincasa hospice care home.
