I never has the privilege of knowing Ruth. But, I was fortunate to have had the opportunity to read her book, Fish Faith and Family. Her personal story brought back many memories of my own childhood in the neighborhood of Joseph Avenue. In 2010 I had the opportunity to talk with Ruth about her book, and to tell how much reading it had meant to me. Ruth left an important legacy. My thoughts are with her family. Julie Nisson

David and Family,
Our lives have now been intertwined in good times and sad.
Your comfort to Peg's family in her time of loss was more than anyone would expect from family, but of course...you are family.
We are so sorry for the loss of your Mom. She was a wonderful and warm person and always made us feel welcome especially during events at your home.
Our prayers are with all of you.
We love you and know that words alone cannot express the grief we all feel.
Love, Peggy, Paul & Stephanie

Ruth was one of my teachers and role models. She had such a sense of history and family. We taught together at Brith Kodesh and shared a love of Jewish community. Her knowledge of Joseph Ave and her writtings about it were very important to the community and inspirational for me. She will be long remembered.

Now that we have all lost her, we must do our best, not to be "Ruthless." The meaning of the word, to be without Ruth, fit her so well. Below is a poem I just wrote to express our loss.
Ruth
So Long ago
before I started school
There was a woman
more precious than a jewel
and through all these years
we kept in touch
like a second mother
who cared so much
The times she laughed
The lessons she taught
Priceless words of wisdom
that couldn’t be bought
So much like my mother
They cared so deep
The last thing they want
Is to hear others weep
Now it's New Years time
so look within
and reflect on her lessons
and do so with a grin
the richest lesson
from her I find
was the value
of being kind
the world has lost
a righteous soul
so we must try harder
to fulfill her role
