Obituary of Sheldon F. Mills
Passed away January 7, 2011 at age 83. Sheldon was recently predeceased by his beloved wife of 60 years, Phyllis Mills. He is survived by his children, Susan Mills, Marlene (Jerry) Bernstein & Mitchel (Marc Sweet) Mills; grandsons, Wayne (Wendy) Minges, Jesse (Danielle) Minges, Wiley (Angel Isaac) Minges, Ari (Stephanie) Bernstein, & Brian Bernstein; great-grandchildren, Kali, Macy, Kailyn, Hannah, Tavian, Latrell, Mason, and Madison; brother Alvin Mills; several nieces, nephews, and many close lifelong friends.
Sheldon was known to everyone he knew as “the kindest, sweetest man on the planet”. He will always be remembered for his caring and calm presence, a great sense of humor, and magnetism for people that made everyone love him.
He served proudly in the US Army, and was recently honored in Washington, DC for his service during WWII as participant in the Veterans Hope flights.
He never stopped loving sports, both watching them and playing them. At 83, he still was actively playing tennis, racquetball, ping pong, pickleball, and taking Chi Gong classes. As an avid golfer, he played twice a week with a group of friends when the weather allowed. He was 21st Century with Wii and mastered virtual bowling, tennis, and golf.
However, Sheldon will be remembered most of all for being “Pa”, the loving, attentive, and caring patriarch of his family. He loved and was dearly loved in return by his three children and five grandsons, but it was his eight great-grandchildren that brought him the most joy, kept his spirits up, always made him laugh and kept a smile on his face.
Graveside services will be held MONDAY at 12 Noon at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the entrance to the cemetery at 11:45 AM. The family will receive friends at 776 Surrey Hill Way, Henrietta, MONDAY 1-4 PM.
