Ralph Carr

Obituary of Ralph Carr

June 20, 2020. Died peacefully at age 97 after deteriorating health in 2020. Survived by Molla, his loving & devoted wife for 68 years, son Stephen (Lisa), daughters Ellen & Deborah (Leslie), grandchildren Adam, Ethan, Lydia, & Alex.

Ralph was raised in Montpellier, Vermont. After graduation from high school, he joined the Army serving in World War II. He was stationed in Hawaii. His unit was scheduled to invade Japan but the war ended prior to the invasion. He was stationed in Japan as part of a peace keeping force when the war ended. Later in life, his WW II experiences became a go to story when meeting new people.
After the war, Ralph moved to Rochester as many family members settled there. In the late 1940s, he began his work life as a co-owner of Carr Poultry Farm in Lakeville, New York. His business sold eggs to brokers, Western New York restaurants, retail stores and many households on the east side of Rochester. In addition he was co-owner of Lake Glen Apartments in Livonia, New York.

In the mid-1980s, Ralph sold his businesses and began a much deserved extended retirement. He helped family and friends with many home improvement projects utilizing his skill set of mechanical/spatial ability and tenacity to get the job done right. He also began many years of volunteering at the Jewish Home of Rochester. Ralph and Molla did travel a bit with a memorable visit to Israel and an extended cross country road trip across the US. They also frequented Boston and Northern California to visit family.

Ralph was an introvert among extraverts. When he spoke up, his words often carried core truths or wisdom. He was a good listener, supportive, and had a calm demeanor which drew people to him. Ralph was a kind, friendly and humble man who always made helping his family, friends and neighbors his top priority.

Graveside Services will be held privately in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
