Obituary of Esther Schwartz Gardner

Esther Schwartz Gardner At age 97, passed away on January 26, 2011, in Fort Myers, Florida. Esther was born in Brooklyn, NY on October 14, 1913 and lived in Rochester, NY until retiring to Florida in 1976. She is survived by her children Dr. David (Marilyn) Gardner of Fort Myers, FL, Dr. Lawrence (Joy) Gardner of Farmingdale, NJ and Naomi Kaffee of Rockville, MD; grandchildren, Nancy (Edward Gordon) Gardner, Robin (Richard) Douglass, Steven (Brenda) Ganot, Daniel Gardner and Julianne Gardner, Ethan, Elliott and Elizabeth Kaffee and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Morris, a son, Robert Michael Gardner and brothers, Hyman and Norman Schwartz. She attended Hunter College and City College of New York. A trained bookkeeper as well as an accomplished pianist, Esther taught piano prior to her marriage, along with serving as a bookkeeper for two different glass companies in Brooklyn, NY. While raising her family, she used those same bookkeeping skills working along side her husband in his income tax business and as a Workmen’s Compensation Examiner for the State of New York. Following her move to Florida, Esther continued to use her talents by serving as the treasurer of her condominium building association. Esther enjoyed playing bridge, music and participating in adult learning opportunities. She was also a life member of Hadassah. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she will be missed by all who knew her. Funeral services will be held at Brighton Memorial Chapel, (3325 Winton Rd.
