He endured a life unlike others Filled with adversity, strife, and pain His determination kept him going, while his good humor would remain. It was a life that had many twists and turns, Learning to survive at such a young age, Irving learned how to cope, He took his message on a big stage. He was a giant in stature Despite lacking in height, He possessed an unrivaled wisdom, And he lived a way he thought was right! Having lived through the Holocaust, Many said they just were amazed, He learned about how to survive His acts of triumph can only be praised! He learned to fend for himself, When he was only fourteen, Having lost both his parents And relatives that would never be seen. When he came to the United States, There he would find a wife, He wanted to make something of himself, Striving for a better life! Determined to make a go of it, He decided to fix and rent apartments, Working hard and long hours, His efforts surely made sense! He had three kids, five grand kids Proud as he could be, He always wanted to help them, His benevolence was easy to see! He met my mother in 2006, It was a romance like no other, They chatted by phone for hours, They met thanks to Warren and my brother! He made the move to Florida, To be with my mom, We would listen to his stories, He always made me feel calm! Irving was truly authentic, He loved everyone he met! He lived with honesty and compassion, What you saw is what you would get! Irving helped me become better, In many, many ways, He advised me on lots of matters, Through countless nights and days! He will never be forgotten, Our memory of him will stay, For all the future generations, There will be many words to say! “Don’t be too happy, Don’t be too sad,” This was his advice By the one I called my Step Dad!
