Obituary of Muriel E. Rothstein

Muriel Esta Rothstein (Feldman) Brighton: March 27, 2010. Born on July 25, 1923 to Harriet & Benjamin Feldman. She is also predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Harold and brother, Samuel Feldman. She is survived by children, Susanne Arnold (Phil Panos), Michael Rothstein (Geraldine Breckinridge) and Joan M. Fisher; grandchildren, Kris Arnold, Megan Elizabeth & Amanda Lee Rothstein; special lifelong friend, Nancy Scorrano; friends of long-standing and a number of nieces & nephews. She earned a degree for Empire State College, worked in the City School District, as a teacher at Temple B’rith Kodesh for 22 years and for Assemblywomen Pinny Cooke. She was well known and respected as a community volunteer leader and activist having served on both the City Council Consumer & County Consumer Advisory Boards and the public relations committee of the Rochester Sesquicentennial Women’s Committee. Muriel served on the Board of Trustees of the Susan B. Anthony House and was President from 1972-1974 of the Rochester Federation of Women’s Club. As a political advocate for the Republican Party she served the League of Women Voters, the Pittsford Women’s Republican Club, the 12th Ward Republican Committee, the Executive Committee of the Women’s Political Caucus, and was a candidate for County Legislature. She received a Woman of the Year Award in 1975. She also served in Scouting, the PTA, the Brighton Estates Condo & Neighborhood Association, WXXI, the Red Cross, March of Dimes and US Postal Service Auxiliaries. She will be missed for her example of committed community building and her grand capacity to be loving. The family would like to thank her doctors & the staff of Lifetime Care who watched over her with compassion. Interment was held privately.
