Arthur was like a member of our family. When I first met him, almost 30 years ago, I felt like I had known him before -- it was like meeting an old friend whom you had not seen for awhile. I KNEW Arthur...understood his sense of humor. He was a kindred spirit, like someone I had known before in a previous life.
Over the years, Gertrude, you and Arthur became members of our family...how many holidays, birthdays, anniversaries did we celebrate together? You were both my parents dearest friends in Rochester...through thick and thin. My father is grieving Arthur as he would blood.
My daughters consider you uncle and aunt...they were deeply saddened by his death. As for me, I will miss Arthur as I would a dear uncle, his sense of humor, his dry wit, his observance and love of people and life, his smile when I hugged him. How ironic that Arthur and Catherine passed so closely in time. I can picture them together, telling jokes and laughing, all their physical frailties gone, young and beautiful, handsome again, free of the ravages of time, watching over us, blessing us. I like to think of them that way. God bless them both.
