Aunt Ruth was a wonderful aunt. My mother, Edith Solonsky, her youngest sister, brought us across the country on long train rides as often as possible. It took three days to get to Rochester from Eugene, Oregon. We learned from Aunt Ruth about keeping kosher, we marveled at Uncle Manny's book collection, we visited the planetarium and the lilac gardens. We got to know our Rochester cousins and our cousins from New York City and Michigan. We slept on the neighbors' porch as there were too many of us for the Berlove house. Only once were all the cousins all together in Rochester. It was Marc's bar mitzvah, in 1964, I think. My mother was pregnant with Kevin and not feeling well. We were worried we would all get sick. She hadn't told us what she "had" but assured us it "wasn't catching." Aunt Ruth was always kind and loving and welcomed us into her busy home. She was the REAL "I Don't Know How She Does It" lady--raising four children, working full-time and keeping a strictly kosher home. We will always treasure our memories of Aunt Ruth.
