Obituary of Charles Himelhoch

Charles Himelhoch At age 89, passed away at Hyde Park Assisted Living in Flint, MI. Charles was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, brother-in-law, cousin and friend. He was known as the gentle giant, loved by all. Charles was a teacher who impacted many. He loved people, family, music, sports, and was known for his sense of humor and positive outlook on life. Born January 4, 1922 in Flint, the son of Aaron and Fannie Himelhoch. He was a graduate of Flint Northern High School, received a letter in basketball at Mott Community College, graduated from University of Michigan, attended midshipman school at Columbia University and Harvard, and obtained a Masters Degree from Eastern Michigan University. He taught at Bryant Junior High for over 20 years, retiring as department chair of mathematics. He was a member of Temple Beth El. Charles was a lieutenant in the United States Navy. He married Florence Gumbiner in 1952, she preceded him in death in 1958. He will be greatly missed by wife Sana Lee; children: Gil (Denise), Jeff (Kim), Ted, Paul (Geri), Brian (Patty), Ramona (Jim); grandchildren: Erin, Lindsey, Alison, Zach, Ben, Angela, Tony, Jonathan, Jenna, Jason, Kristen, and Nicholas; great grandchildren: Mia, Dominic, Damian, Madden, and Jonathon; sister: Betty; brother-in-law: Fred Germer; sister-in-law: Sandy Himelhoch; cousins: Pat and Ted Himelhoch, Lee and Lillian Cronenwalt; along with several special nieces and nephews; special friends: Willie and Carol Shipley. His days were always brightened by visits of children's dogs, Jud and Scooter. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Florence; granddaughter, Shannon; sister, Evelyn; brothers, Gilbert and Robert; brother-in-law, Henry; niece, Faye Ellen, relatives, Ralph Hirsch, uncle Joe, and aunt Hannah, and family member Irene Shipley. Our heart felt gratitude to the staff who cared for him at Hyde Park Assisted Living and Genesys Hospice Care. A Private Graveside Service will be held on Monday, January 24, 2011 in Mt. Visitation

Shiva will be held at 7 PM Wednesday at the home of Kim and Jeff Himelhoch in Grand Blanc, MI.

Service Info

A Private Graveside Service will be held on Monday, January 24, 2011 at 2 PM in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
