Obituary of Charles Kaplan

Passed away May 18, 2018 at the age of 82.  He was predeceased by his parents, Bernard and Rifka Rotenberg Kaplan; step-mother, Blanche Rinzler Kaplan; sister Dvorah Kaplan and his grandson, Ezra Kaplan.  Survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Daryl Salzman Kaplan; loving sons Jeffrey and Robert (Rebecca), Kaplan; adored grandchildren Eitan, Aviva, Rafi and Ross Kaplan; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Marc and Betti Salzman, step-brother Dennis Rinzler.
Chuck graduated from Brighton High School and the University of Rochester.  He served in the U.S. Navy.  He was President and CEO of Kaplan Container Corporation, a three-generation family business that began selling wooden barrels in the early 1900s and became a primary source of industrial containers throughout western New York State.  Chuck was devoted to his cherished family, his many friends, and the Rochester community.  He served on several local boards including Temple B’rith Kodesh, Jewish Home of Rochester and the Hochstein School of Music and Dance.  He served as president of the Rochester Philharmonic League and on the Development Committee of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra.  He was an active member of Brighton Rotary.  He was a literacy volunteer and math tutor at two Rochester City Schools.  He loved sailing, travel, classical music, fine wine and the company of his loving family and many good friends.  He was a kind, caring and gentle man who will be greatly missed.  He loved life.
Memorial services will be held WEDNESDAY May 23 at 1:00 PM in the Main Sanctuary of Temple B’rith Kodesh (2131 Elmwood Ave). Click HERE for a map to Temple.
Interment at White Haven Memorial Park.  
Contributions in his memory may be made to the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, Jewish Senior Life Foundation, Temple B’rith Kodesh or a charity of your choice.  
Following the funeral a period of mourning will be observed at the family residence: Wednesday 7-9 PM; Thursday 2-4 PM & 7-9 PM.
