Obituary of Bernard J. Newmark

Bernard J. Newmark “Bernie” Passed away on June 23, 2011 at age 94. Predeceased by his loving wife, Jean "Slits"; parents, Harry & Celia Newmark; brother, Theodore; sisters, Dorothy & Bernice; son-in-law, Dale Herendeen & many "Mooses." He is survived by his devoted daughter, Sheri Herendeen; grandchildren, Kimberly (James) Swartz & Karen (Peter) Arpag; great grandchildren, Jonathan, Jason & Jeremy Swartz, Sean & Sarah Arpag; nephews, David & Sheldon Eisenberg; cousins, Elliott & Debby Landsman and Selma & Lou Silverman and many dear, supportive & understanding friends. A special thank you to the angels who were Bernie's caregivers, Syeetha & Alonzo Story, Luba Denisenko, Tameka Mitchell, Alem Seifu & Senait Jebryesus. Bernie was a bomber pilot of B-24's during World War II. He was very proud that his entire crew returned safe & intact after each of the 30+ missions he flew. After the war he continued to educate the community about his experiences and the war. He was an avid water & snow skier who taught countless people the joys of water skiing. Known as the "Pied Piper" of Canandaigua Lake, Bernie was active in the "Bay Rats" - Aqua Snow Skiers. Bernie was also well known as the host of Bernie & the Moose Ski Report on WHAM. Funeral Services will be held on SUNDAY at 11 AM in the Benjamin Goldstein Chapel of Temple B'rith Kodesh (2131 Elmwood Ave. Click for a map to Temple). Interment, White Haven Memorial Park, with full military honors. Immediately following the burial, the family will receive friends at Irondequoit Country Club (4045 East Ave.) until 4 PM.
