Obituary of Bernard F. Oratz

Bernard F. Oratz "Fishy" Passed away peacefully on April 29, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Muriel; daughters, Paula Krause, Wendy Gotesman, Sharon (Mark) Lancaster; son, Alan (Dana Campbell); grandsons, Drew, Max, Ryley; nephews, nieces and cousins. Born & raised in Rochester, NY, Bernie lived a long & full life. He owned Oratz's Fish Market & after retiring the business, worked several sales jobs. He started his second career at age 71 at the Wegmans Pittsford store in the Seafood Department where he worked until October, 2011, retiring at age 89. He loved his job at Wegmans where he met many wonderful friends. Bernie served in the Army during WWII & often spoke of that time & told many stories about the Burma Road. He served a number of years as Chancellor Commander of the Knights of Pythias & was also a member of the Jewish War Veterans. In 2006, Bernie was selected as New York State's Outstanding Older Worker and went to Washington D.C. to receive his award. Bernie's family wishes to thank Dr. Mala Gupta, Dr. Marcia Krebs & associates at the Pluta Cancer Center, Lifetime Care, especially Renee, Jose, Brenda and Erin who gave such great care & support to Bernie during these last months, and to the wonderful staff at the Journey Home for their support and compassion during Bernie's last hours. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at 1 PM in the Sanctuary of Temple Beth El (139 Winton Rd. S.). Click here for direction to Beth El.
