David J. Leffert
Passed away on March 4, 2012 at age 95 after a short illness. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Lillian Weiner Leffert; daughters, Susan (Frank) Johnston & Jacqueline (Jeffrey) Rubenstein; grandchildren, Daniel, Emily & Matthew; numerous nieces & nephews.
David grew up on Renwick Place in Syracuse, NY's 15th Ward. A graduate of Syracuse University, he served as his Class of 1937's Freshman Lacrosse Team Goalkeeper. During World War II, he was one of the select officer candidates to attend the Army Air Forces Statistical School at Harvard Business School. He served as a Statistical Officer at the Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force (SHAEF) in Europe, obtaining the rank of Major and receiving the Bronze Star from the United States and the Croix de Guerre from France. David was a founding member of the Lavine & Leffert CPA firm in Syracuse and later became Vice President of Financial Services at the Utica National Insurance Group in New Hartford, NY. He was a member and leader of numerous community, charitable, and professional boards, where he built consensus through his ever-present reasonableness and integrity. The Boy Scouts of America honored him with their distinguished Silver Beaver Award.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at 1:30 PM in the All Seasons Chapel of White Haven Memorial Park (210 Marsh Rd.). Following the funeral, the family will receive friends in the gathering room at White Haven through 4 PM. Click here for directions.
