Obituary of Daniel Chazanoff
Passed away at 5:00 PM in Strong Memorial Hospital on March 9, 2012, at age 89. Our hero faced overwhelming adversity bravely, with good humor, dignity and strength of character. Dan leaves his wife of 55 years, Nina, daughter, Zara (Miguel) Calvente of Jerusalem; son, Michael (Martha) Chazanoff of Berkeley, CA and five grandchildren, Tzvia Gittit, Yitzchak Shoshan, Tzahala Zimrat, Batzion Ashira & Rachel Xuygen. Dan leaves a sister, Gilda Alpert; sister-in-law, Elaine Schwartz; cousin, Bertha Stubbins as well as nieces and nephews. He loved life, his family and his friends.
Dan was a cellist, composer, conductor, musicologist and teacher par excellence. His memory lives on in the hearts and minds of students of all ages, with whom he shared his passion and knowledge of music. He was productive until the end.
He served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WW II.
Dan's graveside service wil take place on MONDAY, March 12, 2012, at 2:00 PM in the Temple Beth El section of Mt. Hope Cemetery.

There will be a period of mourning, at the family home (114 Penarrow Rd.) on Monday from 7:00-9:00 PM and Tuesday through Thursday from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 PM, Friday from 2:00-3:00 PM, Saturday from 8:00-9:00 PM and Sunday from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 PM.

The family will be forever grateful to Dr. Rubery, Dr. Gestring, Dr Apostolakis, Dr. Georas and Dr. Mead who practiced medicine with a listening ear. We would also extend a thank you to Dr. Richter for his continued support.
