I am sorry to write this message so late, but my family and I just heard from a neighbor that Lisa had passed away. Although we had been out of touch in the past few years, our son Jonah was great friends with Elliott in elementary school. Both boys agreed that Lisa's home was much more fun than ours and spent many happy hours playing there. Lisa was always wonderful with Jonah, and she was one of the first to welcome our adoptive daughter home from China. She was also very helpful to us when we were new to Rochester, and it was a delight to talk with her. She was a wonderful person, and we extend our sincerest sympathies to Elliott, Dylan, Bruce and the rest of her family.

I've known Lisa for many many years as we both worked at the JCC. Our paths have crossed numerous times since then. I was always amazed at how upbeat and smiling Lisa was even though she had many highs and lows with her illness. It is obvious that she loved life, and can be remembered as an inspriration to all.

I am so sorry to hear this news. I knew Lisa when I was a teenager and babysat for the family. She is one of the most welcoming, funny, and (may I say) cool people I have ever met. My heart goes out to her family and friends.

Lisa and her zest for life and cheerful spirit are an enduring part of my youth and will always live in my memories of high school. My memories of Lisa include ski trips, backpacking in the Sierras, football games, and the fun we had and the echoes of the laughter and antics we shared are her memorial for me.

Dear Dylan and Elliott,
Our hearts ache for you. May all the love, laughter, and life lessons that your mother packed into the all-too-few years you and she had together sustain you and bring you comfort. Your mother was a mentor for all of us as she lived joyfully and faced her battles with courage and a positive attitude. You, your father, and your entire family are in our prayers. Ralph, Alice, Jess, and Zack

I knew Lisa through school and her brother Joel, and living in LAH/PV. She was very strong independent spirit. She had a lot of courage and I always thought of her as one of the most beautiful girls/women I knew. I really admired her. I am sad we lost her.

I grew up with Lisa and Joel since as far back as I can really remember ...all the way back to the 5th and 6th grades...
Lisa and Joel were two of my best friends; growing up with Joel and Lisa, sleep over parties, her parents and all the grade school/middle school nonsense.... I can still remember as if it was yesterday... going to James Bond movies at the Altos Theater in the summer time and wearing the "Christopher"....
I am very saddened and wish the very best for her family going forward....
Warmest wishes for a better 2009 to all. Jeff

I lived with the Kubbys family from 1966-1968 as a foreign student. The Kubbys became my American family and Lisa, a sister. Lisa's greatest love and joy were her children, Dylan and Elliott. She lived every moment for them and despite her own pain and sufferings, she fought hard to live life to the fullest.
She was an inspiration to those who were fortunate enough to have met her.

I met Lisa through her work at the JCC as leader of the Chug group that my son, Rob, participated in. Because of Lisa's warmth and encouragement, Rob looked forward to each meeting of this social group. Because of Lisa, Rob and his peers were able to have a Confirmation. Lisa's efforts and sensitivity will never be forgotten. My sincerest sympathies to Lisa's family.

I just came back to work from Lisa's memorial service at Temple Sinai. What a wonderful tribute to such a wonderful person. I will always remember her kindness, her gentle humor and outgoing personality. All who met her loved her. Her light will continue to shine through her sons Dylan and Elliott. May they be comforted by all the memories of their mother Lisa. Elliott's words were quoted during the service: "Mom lived above her illness". She sure did :-)
Blessings, Beth Kosoff

Lisa worked with my mother Pat at the Jewish Community Center. I would come into work with my mom and help her and Lisa with whatever I could. I liked to talk with Lisa, her laugh was contageous and she was beautiful. I can remember time there with her that make me smile and I am very glad for that. You will be remembered Lisa, and will be missed.

Lisa was, above all, an adoring mother and sister. Her greatest joy was raising her deeply treasured sons, Dylan and Elliott. As Lisa was an enormously gifted person (her compassion, intelligence, sense of humor and enthusiasm were boundless), it is not surprising that her sons "do her proud" and were the source of endless pride and happiness for her. I truly believe that her resilient spirit will watch over them always. Her sister, Raychel Kubby Adler, was her best friend, and Lisa treasured her young nieces, Marley and Ruby. She was blessed by the love of her brother and sister-in-law, Joel and Lisa D. Kubby, who where were her steadfast allies and supporters to the end. I know that I speak for an entire community when I say that her friendship was one of the greatest gifts that I have received in my life and I will always cherish it. At this time of unfathomable sorrow for you, Elliott, Dylan, Raychel & Mitchel, Joel & Lisa and Bruce, we give you our deepest love, enduring friendship, support and sympathy. Sandy, Greg, Rebecca and Dan Roeder

The memorial service was beautiful. Unfortunately, I did not have the fortune of really knowing Lisa other than to see her at a baseball or basketball game. This was obviously my loss as it is evident that she was a special person who made the very best of some very daunting circumstances. She chose to live everyday to the fullest despite the obstacles. Her sons no doubt will benefit in their future life challenges from the courage she displayed over the past 14 years. My heartfelt prayers to the family in this difficult time.
