To say the name Jan Goldberg is to bring a smile to my face....When I was very young and was a lunch waitress, Jan( then the manager of the Depot Restaurant) saw something in me and gave me a chance to head up the catering department of the Depot Restaurant (mind you, I had no experience but Jan saw past that and knew I was up to the task!)....he was kind, patient, funny, diplomatic and professional....all at the same time! I was a horrible cook and as I was about to get married, I asked for his help...to this day I still have his recipe for veal French and the Betty Crocker Cookbook he gave to me! Since then, I have gone on to be a very experienced cook!!! I loved working for Jan, and although we didn't stay in touch, hearing of his passing has deeply saddened me...To the entire family, I want you to know that Jan was a very important part of my past and I am a better person having known him. I offer to all of you my heartfelt condolences. He was a true gentleman in every sense of the word.

Beth,
Words can't express how deeply sorry and saddened I am. Far too many days were brightened by a conversation with Jan. Our love of a good laugh and a good beer led to many wonderful chats!
I will miss speaking with him and our random texts. He was truly one of the nicest people that I have had the pleasure of knowing.
My heart goes out to you and your entire family.

My heart goes out to Beth, the boys and the whole family. I worked with Jan over 30 years ago and while I had bumped into him a few times over the years, most of my memories of him were from those couple of years working together. At that point of my life, I was young, inexperienced, still in college and working. I considered him one of my mentors. He taught me to keep working hard when others around you might not and maybe a better life lesson, useful all these years later, how to work with family. He was there for some of my early successes and more importantly, some of my failures. He always had a words of encouragement when needed. Truly a great man that made the world a better place.
